La plume et l’équerre translates from English and German into French, my mother tongue.

Three principles guide my work: rigour, style and faithfulness.

To grasp the source language, I take an extremely rigorous approach that is characterized by a typically Germanic discipline. Each notion is understood in full, and each concept, each word is allocated a place in the final version of the text.

The style reflects the mastery of my mother tongue, French, which is constantly improving. I always seek to convey in French what English expresses so well naturally. I take pleasure in delving into style manuals to discover what makes the specificity of our French language so that my translations give off a perfectly French perfume.

Faithfulness guarantees that I respect the source language; I like to retain as best as possible the meaning of the source language.

Experience

La plume et l’équerre has spent many years (17 in total) translating patents into French, and I am still available to do so. I have much experience in the phraseology specific to such documents and I have touched on a wide range of areas. The universality of my taste for general and technical knowledge has always led me to plunge into the most varied fields of research.

In 2008 I started working in the field of automation and of related sciences such as mechanics, electricity, electronics, regulation, etc.

The environment of these technologies means that La plume et l’équerre provides precious assistance in rendering at best the original, the eye of a technician making my work perfect.

As a translator I am extremely demanding with regard to the appropriateness of the term to be used and I am highly proactive in my investigations: I carry out exhaustive research to light up my journey.

La plume et l’équerre also translates documents of a general nature, and I am registered as a sworn translator at the Court of Charleroi in Belgium.
